Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 6, 2018) – Seth Bergman got off to the start he wanted last Friday during the 28th annual 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.
Bergman qualified seventh quickest out of nearly 50 competitors to kick off the second night of the prestigious event at Knoxville Raceway.
“We qualified very well, but I ended up in a tough heat and we weren’t as good as we needed to be,” he said. “We didn’t transfer out of it and that put us behind the eight ball. I think the biggest thing that stands out to me is that you have to get through your heat race and get yourself in a good position in the main event.”
Bergman placed seventh in the heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. He garnered the fourth-and-final transfer position into the 20-lap A Main. Bergman closed the night by rallying from last – 24th – to a 16th-place finish in the main event.
Once preliminary points were tabulated that lined Bergman up ninth in the B Main on Saturday.
“Track position was critical,” he said. “I didn’t get as racy of a start as I wanted. I got boxed in on the bottom. It was hard to get in the open air and run. I’m disappointed I didn’t get the start I needed. Maybe if I could have made up more on the start we would have finished higher up, but it just wasn’t meant to be.”
Bergman gained a position to finish eighth, which was four spots shy of moving into the A Main.
He will return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com competition on Tuesday at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, for the Sage Fruit Ultimate ASCS Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Company.
Bergman placed fourth during his most recent race at the track in August 2014.
“We’ve run there once or twice,” he said. “We ran in the top five there a few ago so we’ve had a little success there. We look forward to going back.”
