Inside Line Promotions – ABERDEEN, S.D. (July 17, 2018) – Seth Bergman has the speed, which has been evident since the start of the year.
“Our car has been one of the fastest if not the fastest all year,” he said. “We’ve had the speed that we need. Keeping our race car from falling apart is our biggest obstacle.”
Bergman competed in three states throughout the last week with the action beginning on Wednesday at Gillette Thunder Speedway in Gillette, Wyo. Bergman placed third in a heat race, which was one spot shy of locking into the feature redraw. It lined him up ninth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com A Main.
“We were having a problem getting our engines to run strong in bad air,” he said. “Scott Baylor does a great job and we were having a problem with the fuel mixture. I think we started to get onto something there in the feature and we figured out some things. It was a good run. I felt late in the race if we had a caution I had a shot to win the deal.”
Bergman rallied for a third-place result, which was his 20th top five of the season.
Unfortunately, the next two races were stymied by mechanical woes and miscues.
Bergman invaded Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont., last Saturday for an ASCS Frontier Region race. He wasn’t able to start the heat race because of a mechanical problem, which lined him up 20th for the A Main.
“I didn’t get a chance to get on the track until the main event,” he said. “We drove up through there pretty quick. I think we were seventh in the first 10 laps, but the track took rubber. We just rode around in line from then on.”
Bergman’s rally from 20th to seventh earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
Bergman tackled Brown County Speedway on Monday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. He maneuvered from ninth to sixth place in a heat race, which earned a spot into the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 3 to start the A Main third.
“Honestly I thought I would win that race,” he said. “I showed Matt (Covington) where to go early in the race. I fell off the track in turn four and he got back by me. We both drove around Skylar (Gee). Then it was me stalking Matt waiting for my opportunity. I was in the mindset of trying to get to his rear bumper and throwing a slide job, but we didn’t get that chance.”
A fuel line came loose in the car around Lap 10, dousing Bergman with fuel. The team was unable to get it fixed before the race resumed and Bergman was credited with a 16th-place finish.
