Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (April 10, 2018) – Seth Bergman extended his winning streak with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com to seven consecutive seasons last Friday when he captured the opening night of the Tony Stewart Presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals at Texas Motor Speedway.
Bergman led all 25 laps of the main event to continue the winning streak that dates back to 2012.
“Last year we didn’t win an ASCS National Tour race until the final weekend of the season so to get one in the second race of the year is huge,” he said. “Fortune was on our side and we took advantage.”
Bergman maneuvered from fourth to second place in a heat race, which earned a spot in the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 1 to start the A Main on the pole.
“We took off into the lead, but traffic was really tricky,” he said. “I knew that it could be a deciding factor and one bobble could allow someone to get by me. We had a near miss late in the race, but I caught a break with the caution coming out.”
A driver dove underneath Bergman in turns one and two on the final lap, but the caution was waved for a car that spun out. It gave Bergman a clear track for the green-white-checkered finish.
“Sometimes cautions come out against you and sometimes they happen in your favor,” he said. “We took advantage of a great starting position and a timely caution to put our fast race car in Victory Lane.”
It marked Bergman’s third career triumph at the track and it locked him into Saturday’s feature redraw. He started the main event on the inside of the second row.
Bergman battled for a podium position throughout the first half of the race before a mechanical problem relegated him to the pits early. He was credited with an 18th-place result and ranks fourth in the championship standings.
“That wasn’t how we envisioned our weekend ending, but you have to take the bad with the good in racing,” he said. “At least we had a fast race car that was running toward the front. I’ve been very pleased with the speed we’ve shown this year.”
