Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (Sept. 5, 2017) – Seth Bergman scored his 11th top-five result of the season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last Saturday to remain in a torrid battle for a podium position in the championship standings.
The weekend opened on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., where Bergman powered from sixth to second place in a heat race to earn a spot in the feature redraw, guaranteeing a starting position in the first four rows of the A Main. Unfortunately, Mother Nature arrived and rained out the remainder of the program.
Bergman returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday when Jackson Motorplex offered $10,000 to win the event. He won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row, which again locked him into the feature redraw. Bergman pulled the highest number available – eight – to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.
“We had a solid start and worked our way into fourth place by around the midpoint of the race,” he said. “We were trying everything we could to get into third place and that allowed Wayne Johnson by us for fourth. I usually seem to run well at Jackson Motorplex. I think the draw played a factor in the outcome and if we were able to start in the first row or two we could have contended for the win, but that’s part of this format. Sometimes it goes your way and other times it doesn’t.”
Bergman’s fifth-place finish keeps him ranked sixth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings – only 17 points out of the top five and 75 points behind third place.
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Lake Ozark Speedway for the 8th annual 360 Nationals with the ASCS Warrior Region. Bergman finished where he started – third – in a heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. He won the consolation race to lock into the 17th starting position for the main event.
“It was pretty difficult to pass and starting toward the back of the main event made it nearly impossible,” he said. “We were in dirty air the whole race and we didn’t progress forward as much as I wanted to, but we brought the car home in one piece and added to our notebook at Lake Ozark so there were positives.”
Bergman finished 15th.
