Inside Line Promotions – BEAUMONT, Texas (May 10, 2016) – Seth Bergman earned a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend.
The three-race weekend began on Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic featuring the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. Bergman placed third in a heat race to lock himself into the 16th starting position for the main event, which was his 200th career ASCS National Tour feature made.
“We failed to get through our heat race well and had to start at the back in the feature,” he said. “Speed-wise we were close to where we needed to be. I just started too far back. I don’t know if there was anything I would have done different in the main event.”
Bergman charged from 16th to a sixth-place result, which was tied for the most cars passed.
He then ventured to Texas to tackle an ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader beginning on Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco.
“I got the jump on the start and we led almost the whole heat race,” he said. “With two laps to go the wheel center broke out of a wheel. We almost got upside down, but I was able to save it. With the way the track was there was a lot of risk of tearing your equipment up so I decided to call it a night.”
Bergman, who didn’t finish the heat race, elected not to start the B Main.
He wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park, where Bergman won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That locked him into the feature redraw. Bergman pulled the second-highest number – seven – to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.
“We were pretty good the first part of the night, but we were just not where we needed to be in the feature,” he said. “The race track went away more than we thought it would. We didn’t chase it far enough with our setup. I found myself struggling to go forward.”
Bergman advanced to a fourth-place finish, which marked his eighth top five of the season.
He is slated to return to ASCS National Tour competition on Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Texas World Dirt Track Championships. Bergman has won the event the last two years.
“It is nice knowing I’ve had success there,” he said. “There’s a little bit of pressure knowing we haven’t been the race team we need to be. I have a name to live up to there. I’m working really hard trying to get everything to where we can get back on track.”
