Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 8, 2015) – Seth Bergman has continued to stay hot as the summer winds down.
Bergman picked up a trio of podium finishes last weekend, including his 12th victory of the season, to give him seven straight top-five results.
“We’ve been pretty consistent,” he said. “We’ve been working on staying up front and competing for wins. I felt like this weekend we had a shot to win every night. It was a really good weekend.”
The competition began on Friday at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn., during the 360ci portion of the 37th annual Jackson Nationals. Bergman, who was competing at the track for the first time since his debut there in 2011, qualified fourth quickest.
“We only qualify a handful of times per year,” he said. “Mentally you have to approach it different and with the race car you have to approach it a little different. We got through it both nights at Jackson. It wasn’t stellar, but it put us in a decent position.”
Bergman then finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race, which earned him enough points to lock into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 1 during the random draw to garner the pole for the 20-lap main event.
“We weren’t very good until the A Main and we barely snuck into the redraw,” he said. “We weren’t happy with the car, but we kept working on it. The draw in 360 racing is so crucial and we were lucky enough to get the No. 1.”
Bergman capitalized on the starting position as he led every lap en route to his first career win at Jackson Speedway, which locked him into Saturday’s main event.
“Any time you’ve got a two-day weekend my mindset is to win every night,” he said. “When you can win the first night out it’s checking that first one off the list.”
Bergman timed in seventh during qualifying before he drove from fourth to second place in a heat race on Saturday. That ranked him fourth in overall points and started him on the outside of the second row for the main event.
“I felt like starting fourth we had a realistic shot at winning,” he said. “The track conditions were a little better Friday, but I was still confident we could win. However, with the way the track played out it was tough to make up ground on guys. I searched all over the race track. I got to second a couple of times, but there’d be a lapped car in the way or a caution would come out.”
Bergman ended with a third-place finish.
The weekend concluded on Monday at Huset’s Speedway, where Bergman powered from fourth to second place in a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw.
“They take the top 12 in points and do a redraw,” he said. “We got into that and had another good draw. I pulled the No. 2 to start on the outside of the front row. We had a really good race with (Dylan) Peterson and (Bryan) Clauson the whole main event. I made one mistake and let Bryan by me on the first lap. That’s what cost me the race. We raced for the lead the whole time, but one of them was running the top and one was running the bottom. I had nowhere to go. I was trying everything. It’s just the way it played out.”
Bergman made a late move to take over the second position and he held on for the runner-up result, which marked his 29th top five of the season.
He is scheduled to race this Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
