Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 2, 2014) – Seth Bergman has already reestablished a career high for wins in a season with a little more than two months remaining this year.
Bergman highlighted a tripleheader weekend by claiming a feature victory at Huset’s Speedway during his debut at the high-banked track on Sunday. It was his eighth win of the season.
“I feel like the weekend was a success,” he said. “All in all, I picked up another win, got a podium and a sixth place. I didn’t tear anything up and the engine ran good. You’ll take weekends like that.”
The weekend kicked off with a rainout last Friday on the opening night of the 36th annual Jackson Nationals at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn., which shortened the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader to a one-day event on Saturday.
Bergman advanced from fourth to third place in his heat race that evening and he maneuvered from 12th to sixth place in the main event on the fast track.
“Jackson was super heavy and it was tough to pass all night,” he said. “They got a bunch of rain the first night and the track was drenched the second night. I passed a couple of guys on my own and picked up the rest by other guys’ misfortunes. It seemed like when you got to a guy you’d get in dirty air and get real tight. You kinda got in line and there’s not a bunch you could do. For the conditions it was a pretty good night.”
He then tackled Huset’s Speedway on Sunday, when Bergman took the lead in his heat race in the closing laps to record the win and earn a spot in the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 1 in the random draw to line up on the pole for the main event.
“We led from the start to the end,” he said. “I started on the pole and took advantage. I got around two or three guys in traffic. It was pretty easy. We won by like 4.5 seconds. The car was good and the engine ran strong. It was pretty much flawless.”
It marked his career-best eighth win of the season.
“Ever since I’ve heard of Huset’s for some reason that place has some prestige,” he said. “That race track has been around for a long time. The atmosphere is neat. To go there and win, it’s one of those special places you can look back on and be proud of it.”
Bergman wrapped up his weekend on Monday at Huset’s Speedway, where he advanced from fifth to third place in his heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the second row for the 25-lap feature.
“We had high hopes,” he said. “We tried a way different approach with the race car. We were good, but it wasn’t quite as good with the changes. I hung out in third for a while and the track took rubber about nine laps into the feature.”
Bergman finished third to earn his 19th top five of the year.
