Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (June 4, 2014) – Seth Bergman has a sour taste in his mouth after last weekend.
“I have a bad taste in my mouth over the whole weekend,” he said. “It’s still resonating with me. We’ve worked hard at the shop this week to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
The challenging weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour started off well last Friday at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan., where Bergman won his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row.
“It started off good at Salina,” he said. “I was having a good run in the feature and ended up getting a DNF. That set the tone for the rest of the weekend.”
Bergman maintained the runner-up position through the first handful of laps in the main event.
“I decided on a restart I was going to take a shot at Jeff (Swindell) for the lead,” he said. “I was tight with the race car in dirty air. In clean air I thought I would be tough to beat. I came up a little bit short. I lost momentum and those guys behind me stayed on the cushion when I was sliding through the middle.”
Bergman dropped a couple of positions on the restart, but he remained in a heated battle with several drivers for a spot on the podium.
“As the race went on I was getting better,” he said. “There were three or four of us sliding each other back and forth. We had a top-five race car.”
Soon after the midpoint of the race another driver executed a slide job on Bergman in turn four, which resulted in Bergman’s nose wing being damaged following a collision. A couple of laps later the wing broke off the car. While there was a caution for the debris, Bergman went into the work area to replace the missing nose wing.
The race was restarted with Bergman trapped in the work area and he was credited with a 16th-place result.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Eagle Raceway for the Hinchman Racewear Eagle Nationals. After advancing from fifth to fourth place in his heat race, Bergman missed a lock-in position by one spot.
He then led all 12 laps of a B Main to transfer into the main event, which he started on the inside of the ninth row.
“It didn’t go well,” he said. “I didn’t think the race track would go as slick as it did so I didn’t adjust accordingly. On a track like Eagle when you start that far back and you don’t get going early you’re gonna get lapped. I just didn’t get going. I just wasn’t able to go forward.”
Bergman ended with a 15th-place finish.
He is set for another pair of ASCS National Tour races this weekend, starting on Friday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn. The competition wraps up on Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.
